1receipt is an all-in-one true digital receipt platform, replacing the polluting paper receipts.

With 1receipt, retailers can issue a true paperless shopping receipt and access a next generation targeted metrics at a lower cost without costing the planet. Unlike others, with 1receipt, shoppers won't need to reveal any personal information (email & phone number) to the retailers and just require to scan a barcode at the checkout.

Why Melbourne

Founder and CEO, Shahryar Faraji's journey began during his second year of studying Computer Science at RMIT, where he joined RMIT Activator, a hub for emerging ideas.

I was thrilled to be selected for their 12-week LaunchHub accelerator program, which they provided helpful guidance and managed to secure the initial funding from RMIT.Not to mention, the support and feedback from early retailers in the City of Melbourne were extremely helpful in refining 1receipt and ultimately bringing us to where we are today. I will always remember the first 'yes' we received from a business at the Queen Victoria Market—it was a pivotal moment in our journey.

After, seeing people exiting shops while they are throwing away large pieces of paper receipt into the nearest bin inspired me to do a half-year-long research to find a solution to prevent wasting such a valuable resource as well as reducing retailers’ cost for issuing paper receipts and making shoppers’ life even easier for storing / retrieving their shopping receipts without revealing their personal information. That's why I came up with the 1receipt solution.

Challenge

Considering at least 5 billion shopping transactions in Australia (2018 - https://bit.ly/2UaFdtJ) and issuing paper receipts for at least 70% of transactions with an average paper length of 20cm per transaction, Australian retailers are consuming over 60,000,000 sqm of thermal papers (yes, sixty million sqm!) yearly - It’s ONLY for Australia NOT the entire world!! Considering 55 GSM for thermal paper receipt, the total wastage can be calculated at least 3,300,000 kg/year paper waste only in Australia. In this calculation we didn't calculate the wastage of empty printer cartridges, inks and ink tanks.

Our solution will stop dumping at least 3,300,000 kg/year paper wastage in Australia. So, this is our first contribution to have a cleaner, low waste and more environmentally sustainable community. In addition to that, stopping cutting down millions of trees every year by using our solution, is our biggest contribution to a more environmentally sustainable city.

Scientists from the USA showed that touching thermal paper receipts and the ink could be harmful to health. In an updated research conducted in 2023, they found still over 80% of receipts contain Bisphenol A and B which can cause cancer in human body. By elimination paper receipts, 1receipt could be a big contributor of preventing people (especially cashiers) putting their health in risk by removing thermal papers from the loop.

1receipt's solution is simple: by replacing paper receipts with a sustainable, smart and privacy-protected e-receipt platform.

1receipt platform allows retailers / shoppers to go paperless when it comes to shopping receipts. Retailers just need to install a small beautiful scanner device named "Pyramid™" and let their shoppers do the rest by scanning the app. 1receipt is now integrated into all POSs in Australia.

The platform organises all of a shopping receipts in one digital place and allows shoppers to instantly receive their receipt with a quick scan of an app without wasting any paper. A lot of time saved!

With 1receipt, shoppers never have to share any emails or phone numbers with retailers to receive their receipts. All data is 100% encrypted. Even us can't see people personal information. Shoppers feel cybersecured.

Instead of continuously purchasing receipt papers, retailers can now conserve money and save the environment at the same time. A lot of money saved!

By using 1receipt innovative approach for sending ads, retailers can send targeted ads designed for their customer needs via push notification over the app which ultimately attracts an increase returning customers & businesses (still no personal information including email address revealed).

Retailers benefit from a streamlined process with a single sign-up for their loyalty club, eliminating the need for traditional paper-based forms. Additionally, they gain access to a personalised dashboard providing rich analytical behavioural information about their business.

With 1receipt, small businesses and individuals can keep track of all their expenses and save time/energy when looking back for tax purposes or similar. 1receipt is now an approved valid tax invoice in Australia.

Looking Ahead

We aim to make Melbourne the first city in the world to lead the change in phasing out toxic paper receipts. Our goal is to introduce a unique digital receipt platform as an environmentally friendly alternative to paper receipts.

By 2030, we envision the 1receipt app being installed on every mobile device in Australia, transforming the way people manage their receipts.
