About

Little Rocket is a First Nations owned and operated full-service marketing and creative agency, celebrating its 15th year anniversary through the theme of ‘Big Dreaming’ - Kuni Jankarni (Gurindji).

The team is experienced, informed and passionate about delivering quality services that make an impact. We work to brief, co-design and consult in a collaborative process to ensure you get the best experience and execution available. Our solutions are delivered in a timely manner, with clear communication and accountability paramount.

Little Rocket utilises First Nations business providers throughout its supply chain, including printers, artists, caterers, entertainers and talent. The organisation is committed to the environment and is a carbon neutral agency through Trace. It also supports the incredible work of Sea Shepherd Australia, through supply of services and monthly donations.

We are passionate about community, Country and culture. Our team offers solutions that have a positive impact within our community. One of the core values of Little Rocket’s service delivery model is to respect the lands and waters where we operate and to offset our footprint where possible.

Challenge

Little Rocket works with a number of organisations on environmental related work that would see First Nations insights applied in a positive and practical way. An example of this is our work with DCCEEW, who engaged us to develop a six part docu-series on how First Nations communities, academics and business owners are combatting climate change around Australia. This project is being presented at CoP in Brazil in November to a global audience. This perspective is truly important for the conversation around what can be done and what has been done to develop better sustainable solutions all across the supply chain.

Little Rocket is also working with Sea Shepherd Australia, generating awareness around their clean up efforts by producing and filming a piece based on their Nanum annual clean up based in the Gulf of Carpenteria. The team is also working closely with Sea Shepherd’s executive to develop their Reconciliation Action Plan, as well as a new First Nations offering that people can access and align themselves with, given the significant amount of work they already do within communities. Little Rocket has been a proud sponsor of Sea Shepherd Australia for the past 7 years.

We are currently engaging with Landcare Australia to provide its network of volunteers an effective cultural guide for First Nations engagement. This will ensure they are following best practice, protocols, terminology and media strategies. It will also have an impact on the way on which they can partner with First Nations organisations and Traditional Owners to achieve better environmental outcomes.

Climate change is affecting First Nations communities all over Australia and the world.

The important documentation of this challenge across sky, water, land, underground and fire country is profound. The work we’re undertaking with DCCEEW aims to talk to all aspects of the challenges facing indigenous communities in Australia and what we can do more broadly to support First Nations self determination.

In many cases it's undoing the damage that colonisation has introduced, including erosion, mining, fracking, over fishing, pollution misfire management and more. The goal for us is to apply a First Nations lens to the issues that western influence has developed, to try and approach sustainability from a unique perspective. The team is also open to looking at contemporary approaches that can help heal Country, and often connects with organisations leading the way in these areas.

Solution

Little Rocket continues to focus on improving environmental outcomes within its supply chain by choosing to offset its carbon footprint, using EcoStock for print materials, reusable cardboard installations for events, recycling plastics and aluminium where possible and reducing our use of plastics.

Little Rocket has an internal Sustainability Committee dedicated to constant improvement within our workspace and operations.

The campaign work we do with like minded organisations like Sea Shepherd Australia, Landcare and DCCEEW is about extending the First nations influence and approach into communities.

By aligning with organisations with sustainability and climate action at the forefront, we’re actively contributing to the impactful work they’re doing by elevating their brand and driving awareness. Examples include Sea Shepherd, a renowned marine conservation NFP, as well as various clean energy projects and government departments that have been covered.

Our strategic approach to marketing, communications and design allows us to improve visibility of these organisations and help to champion their climate efforts.

Result

Little Rocket has been a carbon neutral organisation for the past two years through the Trace organisation. It has financially supported Sea Shepherd Australia for the past seven years, and is now actively working with them on their cultural engagement and clean up efforts. The aforementioned DCCEEW docu series will have a profound impact on a global stage, but also domestically among mob, through opportunities to share the series post CoP.

Our work with Landcare aims to be ongoing should there be a need to develop further cultural engagement across its extensive network. The Guideline will be presented at the National Conference on the Gold Coast in September by the CEO and CD of Little Rocket. The team have worked further in Victoria with DEECA and Agriculture Victoria around topics of bio-security, animal management, water boards and water management.

Internally, we have implemented a range of initiatives to do our part for the planet. This includes a composting system, stringent waste management and recycling processes, a company-wide clothes swap and participation in local clean ups.

Looking Ahead

Little Rocket currently has 23 staff members, over 50 artists it works with on a regular basis, over 50 talent it engages and over a dozen subcontractors that help support the needs of the agency. Each year the team's scope increases by being engaged with bigger campaigns and opportunities. This allows the team to stretch its capability and skills and truly deliver a full service offering. This has included Little Rocket hiring a full time animator, photographer, videographers, illustrators, designers and art and event managers to accommodate our growth.

The vision for the next five years is for Little Rocket to continue to attract impactful campaign work across our three key pillars of Country, Culture and Community. It's the team’s mission to be effective and drive positive outcomes for the environment and sustainability. It is hoped the work that the agency does in these key areas expands into opportunities both here and abroad, particularly in the Pacifica.

We see the Little Rocket team as a conduit to help amplify First Nations voices, prioritise self-determination and de-colonise specific places of significance. We strive to contribute to the narrative and positive work of organisations and communities who develop better solutions that benefit all.
